ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to determine the association of microalbuminuria with age gender, body mass index [BMI] and duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus [T2DM]. Prospective Cross sectional. This study was carried out at District Head Quarter Hospital Mirpur Azad Kashmir from July 2011and June 2012. This study included 300 patients [199 females and 101 females] with T2DM of duration of six months to 43 years. The evaluation included structured questionnaires clinical, neurological examinations and laboratory tests. Negative for albumin in urine by albustic method and micral tests were used for estimation and categorization of microalbuminuria. Chi square test revealed statistical significant association of microalbuminuria with age [<0.015] blood sugars random [p <0.015] but no statistical significant association with gender, weight, and old and new diabetics. One sample t test had shown statistical significant association of degree of microalbuminuria with BMI [p<0.001], cholesterol [p<0.001] and numbers of years of diabetes [p<0.050] In type 2 diabetic statistical significant associations has shown between degree of microalbuminuria, age, blood sugars, cholesterol, body mass index and duration of diabetes mellitus

ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine frequency of cardiovascular complications in patients with thyroid disorder presenting at Divisional Head Quarters Hospital Mirpur Azad Kashmir


Study Design: A descriptive study


Place And Duration: This study was done at Kashmir Institute of Cardiology DHQ. Teaching Hospital Mirpur AJK, over 3 years from 1st January 2010 to 31st Dec 2012


Methodology: 103 consecutive patients with different Thyroid disorders were studied. Only lab confirmed patients whose Thyroid functions tests done were considered. All the values were computed using SPSS version 20. T3,T4 ,TSH were collected from each study participant


Results: Most of the patients were hyperthyroid .Tremors, palpitations, atrial fibrillation were observed as most common presenting symptoms followed by heart failure and dyspnoea. A high prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus and Ischemic heart diseases were also observed, similarly Atrial Fibrillation and heart failure were also observed particularly in admitted patients


Conclusion: Thyroid disorders are important cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. General public and patients diagnosed as thyroid disorders should know about cardiovascular complications of thyroid disorder through electronic and print media. Community awareness aggressive and early identification and management is needed to reduce morbidity and mortality

ABSTRACT

To detect carotid atherosclerosis in symptomatic patients with risk factors noninvasively using carotid Doppler ultrasonography in Divisional Head Quarter Hospital Mirpur Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Prospective Observational study. Kashmir institute of cardiology Div. Headquarters Teaching Hospital Azad Jammu and Kashmir AJK [Mohi-ud-Din Islamic Medical College Azad Kashmir] convenience sampling of all the patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of carotid stenosis from November 2011 to November 2012. Approval was taken from ethical committee of Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital Mirpur AJandK. These patients were sent to consultant radiologist for carotid ultrasound and detailed characteristics were calculated with their frequencies, means and standard deviation using spss version 16. Frequency would be used for qualitative variables while means and standard deviation would be used for quantitative variables. Descriptive statistics were computed. Carotid Artery Stenosis is prevalent in Azad Kashmir and can be easily diagnosed earlier by Carotid Duplex Ultrasound, to document the presence of Atherosclerosis and prevent from future complications of stroke

ABSTRACT

Different drugs have been used in the past during Ramazan Sharif with none of them shown to be Gold standard. Recent data has shown DPP-IV inhibitor, sitagliptin/ metformin combination leads to less hypoglycaemic episodes when compared to sulphonylurea drug glimipride. Data is lacking from Azad Kashmir about the efficacy of these drugs during Ramazan sharif. Randomized controlled study. This study was conducted at Cardiac Outdoor, at District Head Quarters Hospital Teaching Hospital Mirpur Azad Kashmir in Ramazan Sharif the holy month of Islamic calendar during August 2011. Those patients included in this study who were well controlled on diet and oral drugs, no acute illness, adults more than 30 years, Type II diabetes, Both Genders those who gave consent and Baseline HBA Patients using sitagliptin/ metformin combination had less episodes of hypoglycaemia than glemipiride. DPP-Iv inhibitors sitaglipitin/ metformin combination is better tolerated than glemipiride during Ramazan Sharif
